“Corral Talk” – Ride for the Brand – Americans with Disabilities
February – March – April 2016 News Letter
This news letter is to let you know what is going on at Mowry’s Lazy Meadows in preparation for the Ride for the Brand – Americans with Disabilities program for 2016. Dates have been set for 4 events in July; they will be held on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th. We have also changed the start time to 6:30 PM to allow time for everyone to get out to the event and experience the fun. Once again we will have the “Summer Round Up” on July 28th which will include rides, our annual cookout, and award program here at Mowry’s Lazy Meadows so mark this down as an event you do not want to miss!
Board of Directors
Ride for the Brand – Americans with Disabilities has established a formal board of directors for the program. The Ride for the Brand board members are as follows: Monte Mowry, Nancy Mowry, Rian Copeland, Nancy Hunt, Kay Burr, Anna Schultz, Marilyn Schwering, Kay Klemmer, and Brenda Donahe. We have been reviewing numerous issues to further improve our program and bring increased awareness of the program to Owatonna and the Steele County community. Meetings are held the first Thursday of every month at Mowry’s Lazy Meadows and anyone is welcome to attend these meetings. Let us know ahead of time of your interest to attend or if you have anything that you would like to bring up to the board about the program that you feel may help the program grow and address the needs of the participants.
If you receive the Owatonna Peoples Press you may have seen press releases showing that the Ride for the Brand program recently received substantial donations from several organizations in the Steele county area. We have received donations from the Woman’s Club of Owatonna, Gopher Sport, and Chad Lange all of which have come in since the completion of our first year events ending in July 2015. The Board of Directors for the Ride for the Brand – Americans with Disabilities program has been reviewing where these funds will be spent to best meet the needs of the program. To date we have purchased 15 additional new riding helmets and are getting price quotes on materials to build a second rider mounting stand, both of these items will greatly benefit the efficiency of the program. We have also sent out updates to our brochure to Insty-Prints to being the process of getting the word out about the program for 2016 as well as updating other program materials. Insty-Prints has also awarded us funds from their Shine Program which gives us printing of materials that amount; we thank them for all their help and donation it is greatly appreciated.
Ride for the Brand is moving High-Tech!
The board has been working with an individual to help us develop and maintain a website for our program. This is moving along quite well and it is scheduled to be on line by April 1, 2016. We were able to secure the web name of www.rideforthebrand-awd.com for the site. We will be able to include general information about the program such as, sign up forms, photos of past events, and other items of interest on the website. Once in place we will be able to post information regarding dates and any changes to the events on the site.
“Ride for the Brand” gets into deep water!
Yes a couple of our group decided to take the “plunge” at the recent “Polar Plunge for Special Olympics” held here at Lake Kolhmeir on Jan 30th. Rian Copeland and Monte Mowry both braved the cold water and took the “plunge” during the event. They would like to thank the Ride for the Brand supporters who came out to cheer them on and those who donated; thank you very much! Together Rian and Monte were able to pledge over $650.00 for the Special Olympics’ program here in Minnesota. They were part of 175 plungers who were able to pledge a combined amount of over $32,000.00 for this special charity event.
Non-Profit status 501 (c)3
We have also been in touch with a law firm out of Minneapolis and a local accounting firm to establish our non-profit status with both the state and the IRS. Both firms have offered their services to help us file for a minimal charge for their services, but we will be required to pay for any governmental filings. By having a 501(c)3 status anyone wishing to donate will be able to do so and be allowed to use their donation as a tax deductible contribution.
Meet our new staff members
Since the last event in July we have made a couple changes in our “equine” staff. The Mowry family has added “Brandi” a new quarter horse mare to its stable of horses and Steve and Nancy Hunt have also added a few new horses to their stable as well. All of the new “equine” staff members are looking forward to meeting each of you next summer if not before!
Ride for the Brand – Americans with Disabilities is on the “dusty trail”!
On October 16th Tank and Monte paid a visit to Kid’s Corner Educare here in Owatonna. The children were allowed to pet “Tank” and ask questions about his care. Several children present had attended the Ride for the Brand – Americans with Disabilities event last July. Come see us at Waseca Sleigh & Cutter Parade, Feb. 13 and Kenyon Sleigh & Cutter Parade Feb. 27.
